Madeline (Leigh) Barnes

December 19, 1910 — January 8, 2016

Madeline Barnes, age 105, of Allouez passed away Friday, January 8, 2016. Madeline was born December 19, 1910 in London, Ontario Canada to the late Harold and Rose (March) Leigh. Before marriage, she worked for London Life Insurance Company in Canada. She married Frederick W. Barnes on November 12, 1936 at St. George’s Anglican Church in London, Ontario. Fred preceded her in death on August 5, 2006. Madeline was a proud and talented artist, and was a member of the Green Bay Art Colony, Square Dance Club, Green Bay and De Pere Antiquarian Society, Neighborly Club, PEO, and was an original member of Oneida Golf and Country Club. In addition to art, she enjoyed gardening. Madeline is survived by a son Frederick Leigh and Mary Lynn Barnes, a grandson John Bryan and Jennifer Barnes, 2 great-granddaughters Emily and Ashley, as well as nephews, Larry (Wendy) and Fred; and niece, Mary (John), and cousins in Canada and the U.S. In addition to her husband and parents, Madeline was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law: Jack Leigh and Harold and Winifred Leigh. Family and friends may gather for a funeral service at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 347 Libal Street, De Pere, on Friday, January 15, at 10:00am with Fr. Eric Mills officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory of De Pere is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: PEO chapter AU, c/o Cathy Bond, 2081 Crestwood Springs Drive, Green Bay, WI 54304. A special thank you to her PEO Sisters for all of their love and support. You held a special place in her heart. We would also like to thank her caregivers at Angel’s Touch.
