Louise M. (Lindrud) Waldkirch

Louise Waldkirch, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, died on June 25, 2014, her 92nd birthday. Louise was the eldest daughter of John and Marie (Vater) Lindrud. She grew up along the Mississippi in Alma, WI, and attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. After college, she moved to Green Bay to work at the Green Bay Apostolate—a decision that set the path for the rest of her life. On June 8, 1948, Louise married Dr. Bernard Waldkirch at St. John the Evangelist Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin. From this loving, faith-filled marriage, nine children were born. Louise is well known in the Greater Green Bay community; her contributions are too numerous to list. She was honored to be the first woman awarded the Civis Princeps Silver Knight award for community service. In 1971, she started the Mobile Meals Program, which served elderly citizens throughout the Green Bay area for more than 20 years. Her biggest accomplishment was creating the loving home in which she raised nine happy children, supported her parents in their final years, and welcomed many others in need. Louise had a lifelong love for music. She sang at home and in many church and community musicals and choirs, and she passed her love of music along to her children and grandchildren. She most recently sang with the Resurrection Church funeral choir and for Saturday Masses at her retirement community. Louise is survived by her children, Mary Sue (Phil) Burgess, Barbara (Brian) Koblinski, Therese Waldkirch, Jane Waldkirch, Heidi (Russ Jelinek) Waldkirch, Mary Lisa (Dean) Tilley, Mark (Lisa) Waldkirch, and Tom (Karen) Waldkirch; twelve grandchildren; a sister and brother; and many nieces and nephews that she loved as her own, including John, Jeanne, and the late Joe Mettner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; youngest son, James; grandson Andrew; parents; brother Robert Lindrud; and sister Therese Mettner. Visitation will be at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive in Allouez, on Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by a prayer service. Visitation will continue at the church Monday from 9:30 to 11:00 am, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Bishop Robert Morneau and Rev. Gery Meehan, O.Praem will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting. In lieu of flowers, the family has established memorial funds in Louise’s name. The family wishes to give special acknowledgement to Dr. William Reynders and his nurse Cathy Welter; the staffs of Wyndemere Estates and Unity Hospice; and the spiritual ministers and friends that faithfully guided her on her final journey.
