Lola M. (Zuehlke) Luther

October 18, 1942 — July 26, 2015

Lola Luther passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin, due to complications from Open Heart Surgery. Lola was born on October 18, 1942, to the late Gilbert and Doris Zuehlke. She was the oldest of three daughters. Lola grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where she attended Lincoln High School. She married Ted Luther on June 4, 1966. They settled in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and had four children. Lola attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1966. Later, she continued her education at St. Norbert College in DePere where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Magna Cum Laude, in 1983 and became a licensed teacher. Lola worked for the Green Bay Public School System for many years. Lola was active in Saint Matthew’s parish, and she sang in the choir regularly. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake. Lola also enjoyed arts and crafts. She knitted, sewed, and crocheted. In the summer, she enjoyed the outdoors by planting flowers in her flowerbeds. Lola was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved and treasured her family more than anything. Lola was a wife and best friend to Ted for 49 years. She had an extremely caring heart and always put everyone else’s needs before her own. Lola was also a Faithful Catholic. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Anthony. Lola died on the “Feast of Grandparents,” which is the Feast Day of St. Joachim and Saint Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. This is a tribute to Lola’s life as spending time with the grandchildren was very precious to her. Lola was very loved by her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Ted Luther; children, Rebecca Luther, Jarett Luther, Rachelle Luther, and Jessica Osfar; daughter in-law, Gretchen Luther, sons-in-law, UT Chanikornpradit and Chris Osfar; grandchildren, Joshua, Andrea, and Erica Luther, Gasahn, Jaranin, and Onnalyn Chanikorpradt; sisters, Karen Lotter and Lynn Zuehlke; brother-in-law, Jim Luther and sister-in-law, Sue Luther; many cousins including Marlon and Bonnie Greiner and Duane and Bonnie Grenier; nephews, Eric, Mike, and Adam Lotter; and numerous friends from the choir and community. Friends may call St. Matthew Catholic Parish, 130 St. Matthew Street, Green Bay, WI, 54301 on Friday, July 31, 2015, from 9:30-10:15. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 on Friday with Father Kabat. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster St., De Pere, WI, 54115, is assisting the family. Visitation is being held Thursday, July 30, from 5-7 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations are being collected for the Jack Washington “Wonderful World” Memorial Fund and the Love Life Ministry. The mission of the “Wonderful World” Fund is to give youth (K-12) the means to fully participate in all school activities by providing resources for hope, opportunity, and success. Love Life Ministry actively promotes respect for life by providing basic infant needs to families. The Luther Family would like to thank the Cardiac Staff and Doctors at St. Vincent Hospital for the excellent care they provided. We extend our sincere gratitude to Sarah from the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit for the sensitivity, care, and support she provided during our mother’s final hours.
