Lola La Count

July 28, 1949 — September 1, 2011

Lola Jane Daniels La Count of De Pere, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 1, 2011, after a courageous battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Her husband, Michael, was always at her side as she progressed through the various stages of ALS. Lola was born on July 28, 1949, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to the late Ray and Shirley (Herr) Daniels of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Lola was raised in Sheboygan by her mother who was a loving homemaker and her father who was employed with H. C. Prange Co. Lola experienced a loving and wonderful relationship growing up with her older brother Steve and her younger brother Michael. Lola worked for H.C Prange Company while attending North High School. After graduating, Lola received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Milwaukee in Social Welfare. She then returned to work for the H. C. Prange Co. in their Human Resources Department and Training department, in various locations throughout the state. It was during that time that she met her husband, Michael A. La Count, who she married on August 23, 1986, in Sheboygan. On August 23, 2011, Michael and Lola celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Because of Michael’s career, they had residences in Sheboygan, Madison, Marshfield, where their daughter, Amanda Haynes, was born in 1987, and their son, Michael Ray Brock was born in 1989, followed by Traverse City and St. Joseph, Michigan, with their final home for the last 16 enjoyable years in De Pere, Wisconsin. During their years of travels, Lola continued to be employed with the H. C. Prange Co. in Human Resources but took some time off to stay at home to raise their two children and be a loving homemaker. She later re-entered the field of Human Resources with Bank One in Green Bay from 1996 to 2001. She then joined the Associated Bank Corporation’s Human Resource Department at their corporate headquarters in Green Bay from 2001 until 2010. Her time with Associated Bank was the most fulfilling job of her career. But in 2010, her ALS was progressing so with great sadness she was forced to leave her position at Associated Bank and her many wonderful co-workers whose friendship she so cherished. In spite of Lola’s busy schedule, her children, husband, family and home were always the primary focus of her life. She was always a loving wife, mother and friend. Lola enjoyed spending time reading, doing lawn work, just sitting in the sun, by the water or out on the deck, running, biking, walking Tucker, and going to Packer games. Lola was a volunteer for United Way, a Girl Scout Leader and Junior Achievement Advisor. She is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter, Amanda La Count, Milwaukee; son, Michael Ray Brock La Count; Milwaukee; her brother Michael (Margaret) Daniels; Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Pat Daniels, Waupaca; niece, Becky Daniels, New Orleans, LA; nephew, Matthew (Amanda) Daniels, Waupaca; mother-in-law, Clarice La Count, Niagara, WI; sister-in-law, Karen La Count, Green Bay; niece, Stephanie Wade, Arlington, VA; nephew, Mark Wade (Teri), New York; and brother-in-law, Douglas La Count (Shelley), Wisconsin Rapids. She will be sadly missed by all. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Shirley Daniels; her nephew, Patrick Daniels; her brother, Steve Daniels; and her Father in Law Raymond La Count. Relatives and friends may call at the Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Avenue, De Pere from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Church services will be held at Old St. Joseph Catholic Parish on the Saint Norbert College Campus on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. Fr. James Baraniak, O. Praem, Pastor, will be officiating. THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION PRIOR TO THE MASS. Burial will be the following day with the immediate family at the Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan where Lola will rest with her predeceased parents.
