Lewis A. Cook

June 28, 1937 — June 15, 2016

Lewis A. Cook June 28, 1937 - June 15, 2016 Lewis A. Cook, 78, of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, passed peacefully into eternity on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his daughter’s home. Lewis was born on June 28, 1937 to Hubert L. Cook and Martha P. (Bork) Cook of Dalton City, Illinois. Lewis graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1955 and married Judith Blankenship of Shelbyville on July 27, 1958. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Louie farmed on the family farm and then became a tool and die maker. After working in a few machine shops, he worked for Borg-Warner Automotive for more than 30 years in Decatur, Dixon, and Shelbyville, Illinois. After retiring in 1999, he built and ran his own machining business, Lake City Machine and Tool, in Shelbyville until 2006. After Judy’s death in 2012, Louie moved to his own home in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin to be near his daughter, and her family. Louie was always active in church, gardening, and helping others, and he was a meticulous craftsman and builder and talented in everything mechanical. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and that was reflected in his life. Survivors include his daughter, Robin (Neil) Hamel of Oconto Falls, WI; his son, Phillip (Rebecca) Cook of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Ariel (Geoff) Johns of Green Bay, Rachel (Bimal) Rai of Spokane, WA; Caleb and David Hamel of Oconto Falls; and Collin Cook and Laurie Smith of Texas; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and their husbands and Judy’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, his brother David F. Cook, and several in-laws. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. A brief service of remembrance will be held at 7:00pm. Burial will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. The family would like to thank caregivers Cheryl Kuhn, Rosalyn Gilles, Julie Olson, and Heartland Hospice for their care and dedication to Louie.
