Lester “Les” A. Krug, 94, of De Pere, WI, formerly of Orangeville, IL, passed away April 12, 2015 at Angel’s Touch Assisted Care Facility, De Pere. He was born on February 7, 1921 in Green Bay, WI, the son of Edgar A. and Lydia A. (Wolf) Krug. A 1939 graduate of De Pere High School, he was a proud member of the band and football team. From 1942 to 1945 he served with the U.S. Marines in WWII in the Pacific Theater. In January 1944, Les was sent to the Marshall Islands, where his unit invaded and occupied Majuro Island, remaining there until August of 1944. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with one battle star and the American Theatre ribbon. On October 19, 1944 Les married Dorothy A. Gillis. She died on September 15, 1999. Later, he married Arleen Lasee Hockers on January 13, 2001. Les and Dorothy owned and operated Krug Convalescent Home in Orangeville, IL from 1949 to 1972. Les also sold Ford vehicles at Monroe Sales Company from 1956 to 1964 in Monroe, WI, and at Myers Ford Lincoln-Mercury in Freeport, IL, from 1964 to 1986. Les served as Village President of Orangeville, IL, from 1953 to 1957. Les was a member of the Orangeville Fire Department from 1950 to 1986, first as a fireman and later as a trustee. Memberships included the Freeport Consistory, Orangeville Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason, Tebala Temple, Rockford, IL, Ewert Kline Post 720 in Orangeville, IL, 40 8, and was a very active and proud member of VFW Post 2113 in DePere, WI. Les enjoyed bicycling, playing cribbage, and traveling. Surviving are: his wife, Arleen Lasee Hockers Krug of DePere, WI; his son, Lyle A. (Jane) Krug, of Freeport, IL; his daughter, Lynn A. (John) Nelson, of Lafayette, IN; his sister, Eileen Wagner, of Monroe, WI; four grandchildren, Melani (Michael) Guentherman, Prairie du Sac, WI, Hilliary (Patrick) Thompson, Coronado, CA, John L. Nelson, Jr. of Lafayette, IN, Brian (Brittany) Nelson, Indianapolis, IN; eight great-grandchildren: Jacob and Zachary Guentherman; James and Spencer Thompson; Gabriel, Xavier, Madison, and Creedyn Nelson; and the children of Arleen Hockers, Elaine (Glen) Van Rens, Larry (Eileen) Hockers, Marilyn (Michael) Bonfigt, Gerald (Cheryl) Hockers, Karl (Laurie) Hockers, and Joseph (Susan) Hockers; Arleen’s 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Myrtle Beaupre; an infant brother, Edgar; Arleen’s grandson, Jason Van Rens. Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere, on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 10am until 11:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12Noon with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the church. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday April 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Orangeville, IL at the Orangeville Fire Department. Cremains will be interred at the Orangeville Cemetery in a private family service. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with De Pere arrangements and Law Jones Funeral Home is assisting with Orangeville arrangements.
