Lawrence "Newt" Nuthals

September 15, 1937 — October 30, 2013

Lawrence W. Nuthals (Newt) passed peacefully October 30th surrounded by his family. Born September 15, 1937 to Lawrence E. Nuthals and Ruth E. Nuthals. Newt joined in happy matrimony to the love of his life Mona Schmidt in September 1966 at St. Francis Church in De Pere. They were blessed with 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Steve and Angie Nuthals (Alex and Nate), Amy Towle (Mason, Kali and Christopher) and Joe Nuthals. Newt began his education at Annunciation grade school and West Green Bay High School. Upon graduation Newt joined the United States Navy where he served on the flight deck of the USS Hancock. He joined North Central Airlines after the Navy, retiring in September 1993. Newt bowled many years with his father and uncles at Bay Bowl and Western Lanes. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, deer hunting and wood working, but was most happy when surrounded by his family. Newt is survived by his wife Mona, his sister Marie (Ron) Legois and brothers Roger (Carol) Nuthals and Ron (Mary) Nuthals. Further survived by sisters-in-law Donna (Vince) Laverghetta, Cindee (Mike) Mace, Victoria (Raymond) Rogstad, Lisa (Jose) Abadal and brothers-in-law CJ (Maryke) Schmidt, Andy (Darlene) Schmidt, Steve Schmidt, Randy Schmidt and Mike (Joellyn) Schmidt. And many nieces and nephews and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Babe and Ruth Nuthals, father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Virginia Schmidt, God-son Clarence Rogstad and nephew Mike Laverghetta. Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Saturday, November 2, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences at www.cotterfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in his name. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all who helped make Newt's final year more comfortable. Especially Dr. Palubiak, Newt’s Unity Team, St. Vincent’s Hospital and ‘his girls” at NEW Curative. You all enriched his life and we are grateful.
