Lawrence J. Lacenski

Lawrence John Lacenski, 92, Denmark, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 16, 2015. He was born June 23, 1922 in Denmark. He was the son of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Wollock) Lacenski and stepmother Bessie (Mendl) Lacenski. Lawrence graduated from Denmark High School and attended St. Norbert College. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was assigned to the Headquarters and Service Company of the 278th Engineer Battalion in Europe. During the war he was involved in the Liberation of France, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Crossing of the Rhine, Rhineland, Central Europe, Liberation of Labor Camps, and Occupation of Germany. Lawrence married Lois Jean Adriansen on November 19, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay, and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2009. He was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Green Bay office, for 35 years. Lawrence was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6705, American Legion, Brown County Civil Defense, Brown County Sheriff Special Deputy, Viking Rescue Squad (one of the original EMT’s), past member of the Denmark Village Board, and past delegate of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress. He was also a member of All Saints Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and Catholic Knights. His hobbies and interests include land surveying (Registered Land Surveyor), NRA hunter safety instructing, engineering, tree planting, lifelong learner, active citizen, and a loving, engaged grandparent. Lawrence was a volunteer willing to put himself in harm’s way to help others. He enjoyed reading and learning about astronomy, mathematics, and conservation. Survivors include his children: Sherry Lacenski, Denmark; Catherine (Norm) Harrington, Colorado Springs, CO; Joseph (Cheryl), Plover, WI; Julie (Karl) Sherwin, Waukesha, WI; and Jim (Gazelle), Bellevue, WA; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Lacenski, Denmark. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 61 years, Lois. Family and friends may visit Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty R, Denmark, on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Parish Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark, with Fr. Kevin Ori officiating. Full military honors will follow the Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Nature Conservancy in his honor. The care and caring of CNA Lisa Conant made possible our father’s quality of life in his final years.
