L. Thomas Plouff, age 96 of Allouez, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on January 17, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Louis Thomas and K. Florence (Kirmse) Plouff. The son of an ANSUL Salesman, he moved around a lot as a child, living in Indianapolis, Des Moines and Chicago but he always considered Marinette, WI home. He graduated from Lourdes High School in Marinette, then he went on to attend the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1949. Tom then went on to Marquette Medical School, graduating in 1953 with a Doctor of Medicine. In June of 1956, Tom married Marguerite Mary Hormuth who preceded him in death in 1987. After Tom and Maggie were married, they moved to Texas, where Tom worked in the United States Public Health Service for two years. He completed his residency in Ann Arbor, Michigan upon which the family moved to Appleton, where he founded Radiology Associates and stayed with the group until his retirement in 1992. Tom was a founding member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Appleton, a Knights of Columbus member and served on many committees, including the school board. He enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Door County which he designed in 1970, many times working out in the yard, but mostly enjoying time with his family down by the lake. Tom also enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, tending to his roses, apple trees and keeping his yard nicely coifed. He was an avid reader, life long learner and enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels at his feeders later in life. Tom loved his family and would often call for updates on his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderfully kind and loving man, with a great sense of humor who never had an enemy and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
