Judy Lu (Stephan) Classon (aka Judi, aka Mom, aka Luna) passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 in the arms of her devoted husband, David Norman Classon and surrounded by her children, David Nathan Classon and Jennifer Ruth Classon; and sister-in-law Dianne (Classon) Beyer. Judy was born July 16, 1949 in East Liberty, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Ruth Marion (Roberts) Stephan and Jack Pershing Stephan. She is also survived by her sisters Susan (Stephan) Hewitt and Linda (Stephan) Baker. Judy met her childhood sweetheart in the playground at Richland Youth Foundation on their bicycles circa 1963. They married on September 6, 1969. Her union to David Classon is a testament to her conviction and ability to love. Others are the great effort she put into everything that she did and her continued exploration into new interests and skills all throughout her life. Judy gracefully negotiated a society that puts stock in a person’s value based on their credentials. While hers are many including her role as an attentive mother, the success of her business Quality, Ribbons and Rolls and her commitment to community through volunteer efforts, Judy nurtured even more of those which are embedded in her entrepreneurial spirit. One that stands out is the way she tended her love for those around her. David, Jennifer and Dave always came first meanwhile she cared deeply for her parents, her sisters, her friends. None ever felt like they came in second to the others. She was especially proud of her children who she dearly loved and supported. Judy’s constant desire for happiness and more resulted in community giving; extraordinary planning and hosting of celebrations that have historical significance to their attendees; spectacular vacations for her family and friends to explore the great wonders of the world; and life-long friendships. She adored horses and horseback riding. She remained a giver of gifts with special meaning and a maker of beautiful textiles and crafts all the way until she could no longer. Judy is dearly missed by her family and friends who characterize her as loyal daughter, sister, wife and mother; funny, smart, zany and full of spirit; Wonder Woman; a role model for courage; excellent party planner and hostess; perfect, generous and loving friend. We all intend to carry on her legacy. Any donations contributed will be accepted on Judy’s behalf and made to support a local art institution of the family’s choosing to honor Judy’s love of the arts.
