Josephine C. (Janssen) Gossen

Josephine C. (Janssen) Gossen, 89, Green Bay, formerly of De Pere, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 1, 2011, surrounded by her family, who were her greatest joy in life. Daughter to the late William and Gertrude (Coenen) Janssen was born November 13, 1921, in the Town of Rockland. She was an active member of St. Willebrord Catholic Church, where she was active in the Sanctuary Society, was a member of the Hospitality Committee, served as Eucharistic Minister, and assisted wherever there was a need. Josephine volunteered at the Salvation Army and was Vice President of the Single’s Club. She loved to dance and was a member of the Whirl-O-Way Square Dance Club. She also enjoyed bowling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Josephine loved to walk and made sure she did so every day. Many people will remember her by her smile. She is survived by her children: Karon (Jerry) VandeHei, Marinette; Gail Gossen, Howard; Peter (Eileen) Gossen, Sobieski; Sarah (Keith) VanderVelden, Kaukauna; Amy (Mark) List, De Pere; and John (Kathleen) Gossen, Ashwaubenon; son-in-law, Gary Lumaye, South Burwick, Maine; 20 grandchildren: Tammy (Joe) Johnson, Gary Lumaye, Jr., Becky (Bob) Grandaw, Scott (Robin) VandeHei, Amy (Levi) Olson, Shelly (Steve) Jarosinski, Bill (Jen) Kramer, Kris Gossen and special friend-Craig Watermolen, Ben Gossen and special friend-Amanda Johnson, Teresa (Tony) Larmay, Michele (Andy) Niespodzany, Troy (Lindsey) Gossen, Sharon (David) Jackson, Nick Gossen, Matthew (Sarah) List, Tyler (Michelle) List, Ashley List, Elizabeth Gossen, John Gossen II and fiancée-Tammy, and Eric Gossen; 36 great-grandchildren; sister , Alice Hutjens; brothers: Louis (Esther) Janssen, Bob Janssen, Dan (Dorothy) Janssen, and Ken (Donna) Janssen; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by three children and a son-in-law: Judy Lumaye, Sharon (Jerry) Novoselatz, and Bill Gossen; and two grandchildren: Chad Gossen and Jordan Gossen; sister, Johanna (Art) Wellens; brother-in-law, Joe Hutjens; and sister-in-law, Rita Janssen. Friends may call Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at St. Willebrord Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., Green Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at church, with the Rev. Kenneth DeGroot O.Praem officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum.
