Joseph Francis Nies, 89, De Pere, WI died Saturday, August 30, 2014 after a long illness. Joe was born July 28, 1925 to the late Antone and Anastasia (Kane) Nies in the town of Holland. A proud WWII veteran having served the USA in WWII in Europe. On May 4, 1948 Joe was married to Rosella Kabat at St. Mary Church, East Wrightstown. Joe and Rosella lived in the Greenleaf area the majority of their married life, moving to De Pere in 1987. Joe was a builder in the area for decades, owning Nies Construction. He built and remodeled many homes in Northeast Wisconsin, always proudly pointing them out to his family as he travelled the area. Dad was an avid golfer, in 2 leagues at Hilly Haven. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosella, and their 5 children Larry (Judy) Nies, Brillion, Jim (June) Nies, De Pere, Jane (Alan) Symbal, Negaunee, MI, Steve (Janet) Nies, De Pere, Tim (Karen) Nies De Pere. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Siblings Florence (Nies) Kabat, Jerry Nies, Ellen (Glen) Farrell, and sister-in-law Ruth Kabat. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William (Lucy) Nies, Robert (Dorothy) Nies, and Bernard, sister Marie (Clarence) Diny, and Margaret Ellen Nies (at age 3). Also, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Frank and Leona (Kabat) Foytik, Ellsworth and Ludmilla (Kabat) De Cleene, Walter and Cecelia (Kabat) Krautkramer, Reverend Cyril Kabat, Landelin Kabat, Stanley Kabat, Bernadine (Kabat) Nies. Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan Street, De Pere, on Thursday, September 4, from 9:00-10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Greenleaf. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
