John R. Binish

John R. Binish, 79, Allouez, passed away Thursday evening, May 31, 2012 at the Jack Engrid Meng Residence at Unity Hospice following a long illness. John was born in Green Bay on January 8, 1933, son of the late Peter and Margaret (Cornelissen) Binish. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. John married Gloria Hansen on September 25, 1954, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Allouez. He was employed 34 years as a vehicle mechanic at Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, and was a member of the WPS Quarter Century Club. John is a founding member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Allouez. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America for 12 years serving as Webelos Den Leader and Scout Master. John was a devoted husband and dedicated father. He had a great sense of humor, a sharp wit, and was always cheerful. John was an excellent cook, and enjoyed making all types of candy, especially caramels. John could fix anything and would help anyone in need. Surviving are his loving wife, Gloria; children: Jay A. (Becky) Binish and Gail M. (Brian) Van Dreel; daughter-in-law, Sue L. Binish; grandchildren: Alexandra and Breanna Van Dreel, Austin and Kelsey Binish, and Misty and Shane Bero; a brother, Tom (Terry) Binish; and a sister, Joyce (Gordy) Fon. John was preceded in death by a son, Guy V. Binish. Friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Church, 330 Hilltop Dr., Allouez, on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Unity Hospice has been established John’s family expresses a heartfelt thank you to all at Unity Hospice, and to Bishop Bob, Sheila Deluca, and Mary Meisinger.
