John "Jack" Marchant

John (Jack) Marchant, 84, of De Pere, passed away Saturday at his home, with his family by his side. The son of the late Harry and Evelyn (Brown) Marchant was born March 31, 1929 in Green Bay. Jack was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Green Bay, as well as St. Norbert College and Marquette University. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jack married the former Joyce Boehm, and together they raised 8 children. He taught at De Pere High School for 36 years, during which time he also coached the golf team. During his career, Jack also taught at St. Norbert College. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere, where he was an usher for many years. In addition to his family, whom he loved so dearly, he enjoyed golfing, reading, playing poker with friends and watching the grandkids in their sporting events. Jack also worked as an official statistician for the Green Bay Packers for nearly 3 decades, serving as the team’s head statistician for many years. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; children: Karen Marchant, Brian (Heather) Marchant, Mary Jo (Ken) Kriescher, Kathy (Brian Kummet) Hiemerl, Connie (Russ) Huxford, Tom (Kathy) Marchant and Robert (Amy) Marchant; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Debra Marchant; and a sister, JoAnn (William) Miller. He was preceded in death by his son, David, a brother, Jim Marchant, and sisters, Joyce Smith and Jeanne Kassner. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, from 5-8pm on Monday, May 6. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30pm Monday evening. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St, De Pere, from 10:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere. Online memorials at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jack’s name.
