John B. “Jack” Bangert, age 90, of Allouez, died peacefully at Bellin Hospital surrounded by family on November 26, 2019. He was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1929 to the late Berthold and Elizabeth (Eberhardt) Bangert. In 1947, John graduated from West High and then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948, where he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. On August 8, 1953 he was united in marriage to Laura Thede at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay, and she preceded him in death December 28, 2018.
John started his career as an apprentice plumber and after a few years started John B. Bangert Plumbing and Heating, which he owned for 14 years before selling. John then returned to Local 298/400 as a plumber before moving to a union pipefitter role that he worked until his retirement. In the early years after selling his business, John also served as the plumbing inspector for the village of Allouez. During his retirement he volunteered as a driver for the DAV for ten plus years where he logged over 100,000 miles taking other veterans to and from VA facilities for medical treatment.
In his spare-time he enjoyed: woodworking, wine making, spending time outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. John constructed an intricate model train village as well as building model airplanes and flying them as a member of the Green Bay Model Airplane Club.
