John G. Hermsen

January 31, 1955 — May 4, 2022

John G. Hermsen, 67, of Green Bay, passed away on May 4, 2022, surrounded by family. John was born on January 31, 1955, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Hermsen.

Family – our father’s immediate and extended family and friends were always a priority. It was his cornerstone. Every weekend, he'd make his rounds to visit his dearest mom, his many lovely sisters and brothers, and his children. He’d take all of us kids to all kinds of sporting events during middle and high school across Wisconsin. Rarely in our youth did our father have a Saturday to himself because it was spent watching wrestling tournaments. Occasionally he would take a ride on his beloved Harley-Davidson.

Talent - our father was a man of many talents. He knew what hard-work meant as he started his career as a farmer on the Allen Dairy Farm. He always provided for his family. He moved into construction, and finally, property maintenance until he retired. He had an innate ability to easily understand what seemed like complex matters and fix anything.

Story-telling – our father had an advanced degree in storytelling. He would always start from Truth. Then pull you in slowly and wow those who were listening with explosive fiction. For hours we’d sit by campfires and listen intently for the next yarn he’d spin.

Children - our father knew how to keep his children active. He did his best to keep us entertained with 3-wheelers, mini-bikes, 20-foot treehouses, swimming pools, volleyball courts in the yard, family trips, and family get-togethers.
Animals – our father loved animals. Kathy and our father have always had cats. During our childhood, we had dogs, horses, and Billy goats. Every day he would make sure the stray cats were fed at the shop.

To our loving Pops – many say you were a Silver Fox because of your Luscious Locks. As with wine, your hairstyle aged with magnificent beauty. We are better people for having you in our lives. Your values will live on through us and our actions. Love you always and forever. Rest-In-Peace.

John is survived by his wife Kathy (Miller) Hermsen; children – Joanne Kropp, James Hermsen, Jared Hermsen, Jeff (Sara) Hermsen, and Jessica (Jay) Schwartz; and grandchildren – Logan, Shane, Jenna, Anthony, Emma, Hope, Brandon, Emalee, and Jacob.

John is also survived by his siblings Judy Manci, Barbara Denisen, Suzanne (Art) Uher, Lynn (Patrick) Gleason, Georgiana (Dan) Hietpas, Lisa Piaskowski, Peter Hermsen, and Mark Hermsen.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by the mother of his children Josephine (Allen) Hermsen; sisters Nancie Helgerson and Leslie Marmes; and brothers Michael, Robert, and Paul Hermsen.
