John F. Meyer, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 13, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1940 in Green Bay and attended Premontre High School until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1958. John proudly served his country for 6 years. On April 13, 1959, he married the former Priscilla “Pat” Schmidt at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. After his enlistment, John worked at Fort Howard as a papermaker for 35 years before his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed his work with the Knights of Columbus, his Tuesday golf outings, and spending time at his cabin. His grandchildren were his world and he cherished the time he spent with them.
John is survived by his wife Pat; their children: Molly (Mark) Scarallo, Kathryn (Roy) Verstegen, Kara Meyer, and Michael Meyer; 8 grandchildren: Alexandria (Jay) Ray, Jacob (Gigi) Verstegen, Monica (Eric) Hendrichs, Paulette (Rudy) Aguirre, Anthony (Nicole) Scarallo, Abigale Scarallo, Marie Gales, and Aubrey Gales-Meyer; 13 great-grandchildren: Eloisa, Lucca, Turin, Levi, Elliot, Oliver, Howard, Nathalie, Ainhoa, Apollo, Ryker, Emmett, and Mia; and 3 sisters: Jerrie Krueger, Joyce Nielsen, and Joan (Maurey) Steffel.
He was preceded in death by his son: John W. Meyer; his parents: Walter and Mary Meyer; his sisters: Judy and Janice; his brother: Jim; parents-in-law: Walter (Myrtle) Schmidt and Ruthell Rickaby.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr, Green Bay, from 9:30 am–10:45 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Fr. Tom Reynebeau officiating.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice, especially Jolene, Jennifer, Sierra, Monika, and Kathy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
