John Costello

August 8, 1956 — July 26, 2013

John Costello, age 56, of Kaukauna, passed away at home on July 26, 2013 with his family by his side after a long and courageous 21 month battle with cancer. He was born August 29, 1956 to the late Robert and Violet (Renier) Costello in Green Bay. He attended Premontre High. On July 10, 1992 he married the love of his life, Diane Bowers. They spent 21 years happily married; many of which were spent together riding the open roads on their Harley. John was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed many trips to Canada with friends and family. John loved the game of golf; his passion began at a young age while working at Woodside golf course. He and his family enjoyed many rounds together. John loved being a “papa;” he spent countless hours with his grandkids and created everlasting memories. His family was the most important thing to him, they will miss him dearly. John is survived by and will be sadly missed by his wife, Diane Costello, children: Jason VanEgeren, Dani (Jon) Leick, and Shane (special friend Jami) Costello; grandchildren: Austin VanEgeren, Dayna VanEgeren, Sydney VanEgeren, Cullen Leick, Beckett Leick and Reina Saldana; siblings: Karen (Phil) Coppersmith, Cindy (Mike) O’keefe, Cathy (Jim) Konop, Chris (Pat) Gaulke, Charlie (Betty) Costello, Jim (Cindy) Costello and Bob (Judy) Costello; mother-in-law, Margaret (Mugs) Bowers; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; Shari (Pete) Colwell, Deb (Rick) Meulemans, Lea Ann (Dan) Meulemans, , Donna (Darren) Cornelissen; many nieces and nephews; and his two special 4 legged friends, Snickers and Reggie. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Costello, mother Violet Simons and his step-father, Fritz Simons; father-in-law, Norman (Norm) Bowers; maternal and paternal grandparents. Family and friends may call St. Clare Catholic Church- St. Paul site, 437 Main Street, Wrightstown, on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4-7pm. A parish prayer service will be held at 7pm Thursday evening. Visitation will continue on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 9:30am until the hour of mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Rev. Carl Meulemans officiating. Cotter Funeral Home, Wrightstown, is assisting the family. Online memorials at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in John’s name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the AMC emergency department, 7th floor staff, Dr. Barlev, Nancy Gudex and all the staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, as well as the ThedaCare Hospice team. We also wish to extend a huge thank you to our entire extended family for their help in keeping John safe and comfortable at home. An extra special thank you goes to his brother, Jim, for being Diane’s right hand man.
