Joan Kathryn Hannemann, 80, De Pere, died unexpectedly on July 5, 2011, at Bellin Hospital. She was born on September 12, 1930 in Appleton, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Ethel Prasher. Joan graduated from Appleton High school in 1948 and held variousjobs throughout her working life, mostly in the clerical/typing field. Joan married Robert Hannemann on January 13, 1956 in Appleton, Wisconsin. After raising their three kids, Joan and Bob retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1989. After Bob’s death, Joan was married to Ralph Carter on April 11, 2003, until she moved to De Pere in May 2009. Joan will be remembered for her fun-loving approach to life and her kind-heartedness. Joan had a huge heart and was always volunteering for various causes, from her kids’ childhood classrooms to the public library and church during retirement. Joan loved reading, sewing, quilting, playing games, shopping, and spending time on her computer. She enjoyed new hobbies during retirement, such as tap dancing, aerobics, and playing violin. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh and have a good time. She always knew how to light up a room with her sense of humor and huge smile. Joan will be greatly missed by her friends and family. Survivors include son, Paul (Noreen) Hannemann, Kaukauna; daughter, Carrie (Bill) Bohrer, De Pere; grandchildren, Sarah Hannemann (Brent Knutson), Maria (Tyler) Verkuilen, Carly Hannemann (Corey Wachtendonk), Eric Bohrer, Beth Bohrer, and Heidi Bohrer; great grandchildren, Nicholas Wachtendonk and Brooks Verkuilen; her siblings Lois Williams, Sam Prasher, and Sue Krueger; and many other nieces and nephews. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hannemann and son, Peter Hannemann. Family and friends may call on Friday, July 8, 2011, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 East South River St., Appleton, from 9am – 11am. A funeral service will be at 11am on Friday with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Savides officiating. Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, is assisting the family with arrangements.
