Jay Thomas Rollin
March 18, 1950 – July 2, 2021
Jay Rollin was a rock. He was a steady and calming presence to his wife, daughters and sons-in-law, and a silly and special “Bumpa” to his grandkids. Jay died unexpectedly on Friday, July 2nd at age 71.
He was born March 18, 1950 to Wayne and Mary Rollin. Jay grew up in Green Bay, attending St. Patrick Catholic School and Premontre Academy. Growing up, he played every sport possible, although football was his true passion. He received a scholarship to play at the University of South Dakota, until bad knees and an illness cut his lineman career short. He then transferred to the University of WI – Stevens Point, where he pursued his other two passions – helping people, and his soon-to-be wife, Carol.
He and Carol were married January 26, 1974. In 1979 and 1984, respectively, they welcomed their two daughters, Elizabeth and Sara.
Jay worked as a Medical Social Worker at St. Vincent Hospital for over thirty years, returning to school for his master’s degree in counseling through Lakeland College late in his career. He retired in January 2012 to explore other interests, namely “putzing” and flipping channels. He never stopped helping friends and family though, teaching us all that it is never wrong to do the right thing.
Jay continued his passion for football by being a true Packer fan, sticking with the team through good years and bad. It was a particular source of pride that the family season tickets were never sold, though he was generous with giving tickets to friends and family when he was unable to attend games.
He loved being outdoors, spending time camping, fishing, and hunting, although he rarely caught or shot anything. He also loved to golf, both in Green Bay and Florida, and enjoyed whatever time could be spent in the pool or ocean with his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, two daughters and their families; Elizabeth and Andy Riemer (Jacob and Ella) and Sara and Scot Anderson (Arthur), brothers Wayne (Annette) and Tom (Niki), and sisters Judy (Tom) and Jeanne, nieces and nephews, and an abundance of amazing friends and family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8th, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at First United Church of Christ, 509 S. Webster Ave. Visitation will continue Friday, July 9th from 9:30 – 10:30 am, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00, also at the church. Out of respect for Jay’s grandchildren, the family asks that those who haven’t received a COVID vaccine wear masks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Green Bay Area Public Schools (GBAPS) c/o Cotter Funeral Home at 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, WI 54115. A fund through GBAPS has been established to provide sports equipment for underprivileged youth in Jay’s name.
