Janet McIntosh (née Schmiedl) passed peacefully at home on August 27, 2020. She was born June 6, 1924 in Chicago, IL, the only child of Iris and Joseph Schmiedl.
She attended the University of WA and earned her degree in Microbiology. She worked for the Chicago Water Dept. as a bacteriologist prior to her marriage, and later as a microbiologist at Larsen Foods in Green Bay, WI.
On June 6, 1951 she married Brian McIntosh in Chicago, IL. The couple met in South Africa and travelled extensively during their 66 year marriage. They lived in Johannesburg, South Africa and Quebec, Canada, among other places.
Following Brian’s passing, Janet returned to Green Bay, WI to live with their daughter Laurel. She enjoyed being outside, going for walks, reading, and visiting her children and grandchildren. Janet’s kindness, intelligence, and loving nature will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Brian, and eldest son Mark McIntosh. She is survived by her daughter Laurel McIntosh (of DePere, WI), son Murray McIntosh (of North Kingston, RI), grandson David McIntosh (of Las Vegas, NV) and granddaughters Vanessa Kaicher (of Chicago, IL) and Shelby, Laura and Caroline McIntosh (of North Kingston, RI).
The family will hold a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
