Jane (Geyer) Laird

June 14, 1933 — March 16, 2015

Jane Geyer Laird, 81, Green Bay and Marco Island, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2015, at the Meng Residence of Unity Hospice. Jane endured a lengthy struggle with cancer, but she always displayed courage, a positive attitude, and a strong faith. She was born on June 14, 1933, to the late John and Margaret (Norwich) Geyer in Piqua, Ohio. Jane graduated from Denison University, Granville, Ohio, in 1955 and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. On November 17, 1956, Jane married Robert H. Laird, a fellow Denisonian, at St. James Episcopal Church in Piqua. Bob’s employment took them to Toledo, Wausau, and Green Bay. They have a daughter, Susan Jane; and two sons, Robert H. Jr. and John. Jane loved spending time with her family and had so much pride in her grandchildren Amanda, Alaina, and Ben. She was thoughtful and giving to her family and a wide circle of friends. They will always remember her sense of humor and loving expressions of care and concern. She enjoyed extensive community involvement over her lifetime. Jane was committed to Bellin Hospital, The Bellin College of Nursing, and the Bellin Auxiliary board. Jane was actively involved and held board positions with the YWCA, Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, PEO, Girl Scouts and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church as a member of the Vestry and a lay reader. She was a member of Oneida Golf and Country Club. They spent their winters at Marco Island, FL, where they were members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Jane is survived by Robert, her husband of 58 years; children: Susan, Green Bay; Robert Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; John (Amy), Green Bay; and grandchildren: Amanda, Alaina, and Ben. She is further survived by a nephew, Richard H. Laird III, Ashland, VA and a niece, Ann Laird of Sun City Center, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Geyer; Robert’s parents, Richard and Ruth Laird, and her brother-in-law, Richard and his wife Marjorie. Friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, on Friday, March 20, from 4 to 7PM. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9:30AM until the time of funeral service at 11AM at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 347 Libal St., De Pere, with Rev. Eric Mills officiating. Online condolences may be sent to Jane’s family at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. There will be a memorial service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at Marco Island, FL later this spring. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. The family extends special thanks to Green Bay Oncology, Dr. Volk, the wonderful staff on 9th floor at St. Vincent Hospital, and Unity Hospice for their loving care. “FRIENDS ARE FOREVER”
