James S. Guay

February 28, 1956 — February 20, 2022

James (Jim) Stephen Guay was born on February 28, 1956, the eighth of John and Verna (Cady) Guay’s ten children, in Menominee, Michigan. He attended St. Mary’s grade school in Peshtigo and graduated from Marinette Catholic Central High School in 1974. Jim attended St. Norbert College, where he met his true love, Terry Flanigan. Jim graduated from St. Norbert in 1978, Jim and Terry married in 1980.
Jim worked at North Central (Republic) Airlines, Public Service Corporation, and retired from the Kewaunee Nuclear Plant in 2000.
Jim enjoyed reading, writing, bird watching, and talking to his family, while enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Jim believed that every day was a gift, and as long as Terry was with him, life was a blessing.
Although he experienced a lifetime of health struggles, Jim taught us to love our family fiercely, to always be kind and inclusive, to always push yourself to achieve, and when life gets difficult, to keep moving forward. Jim is finally at peace and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jim’s profound faith provided strength throughout his life, and comfort in his final days.
Jim is survived by his wife, Terry (Flanigan), daughter Emily (Guay) Aluia (husband Derek Aluia, son Mason (11) and daughter Avonlea (8), son Dr. Evan Guay (wife Jacqueline Carroll, son Desmond (20 months) and son Declan (14 days), as well as his siblings John (Sandra) Guay, Janet Ristau, Jean Ann Miller, Judy Miller, Jayne (Greg) Benesh, Jodie (Brad) Lemke, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Verna Guay, sister Jill Davis, and brothers Jeff and Joel Guay.
Jim’s family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent hospital and Unity Hospice for their kindness. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Jim’s name. Jim would encourage everyone to express their love with family when, how, and where they can.
