James Joseph Schlies

James J. Schlies, 71, of Denmark, was called home to the Lord on August 9, 2015 while a resident of Angels Touch in De Pere. Jim was born September 15, 1943 to William and Isabelle (Holly) Schlies of Bolt, WI. He attended Bolt Grade School and Denmark High School graduating in 1961. He attended one year of college at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Extension. He married Janis Drace on June 8, 1963. He worked at Hamilton Manufacturing for 45 years, retiring as Vice President of Sales in 2005. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Lakeshore Beagle Club and Maribel Sportsmen Club. He was also a member of Saint James Catholic Church of Cooperstown and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janis; two sons: James, John, and one daughter, Jane (Ted) Thorne; two grandchildren, Kyle Thorne and Isabelle Schlies; four sisters: Diane (Gerald) Steinberger, Sandy (Wayne) Bradley, Kathleen (Myron) Kudick, and Jeanette (Bernard) Wotachek, all of Denmark; foster grandchild, Brittany (Cory) VanStippen; two foster great-grandchildren, Aya and Ana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Family and friends may visit Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty R, Denmark, on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of Mass at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Maurice Mmegbuadimma officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
