James Lipsky passed away January 11, 2023 peacefully at home with family at his
side. Jim was born to Nicholas and Helen (Cesar) January 29,1937 in Kewaunee,
Wisconsin. He was the 5th child in a family of 10 children.
Jim attended Holy Rosary Catholic elementary school and high school in Kewaunee. He continued his education at Door-Kewaunee Teachers College in Algoma where he met and married his wife, Shirley Dworak. They attended UW-Oshkosh, and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Furthering his education, he earned a PhD in Counselor Education at Ohio University. In 1968 the family moved to River Falls, Wisconsin where he accepted a professor position in Counselor Education at UW-River Falls. He developed programs to educate counselors and earned tenure. Jim was an advisor for the campus Newman Club for Catholic students and was awarded Outstanding Human Relations Educator. He retired from teaching in 1993 at age fifty-six.
Finding Joy, beauty, humor and knowledge in the world around him, he loved traveling and the outdoors while spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers and attended many of his son-in-law and grandson’s sporting events. He used his retirement to develop his skills in songwriting and poetry leading to published materials that he loved to share. He supported and often visited the National Shrine of our Lady of Good Help. Promoting the vocation of religious people as a member of the Serra Club, Jim was a person who always was able to share his deep faith. He cherished his wife Shirley for 64 years of marriage. He will be missed as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons Kevin and Stuart and daughter Michelle O’Connor (husband Jack), two grandsons Tyler (wife Lisa) O’Connor and Callan O’Connor. He has two great grandsons Jack and Charles O’Connor. Other survivors include sisters Helen Reisner and Nancy (husband Robert) Bierke, sister-in-law Delores Dworak, his brother Dale Lipsky (friend Deanna), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley’s parents and her brothers Robert, Lee (wife Joanne) and Gary. Jim’s brothers Nicholas, Robert, Donald, Mike (wife Phyllis) and brothers in law Donald and Wayne, sisters Marie (husband Leon) Gillis, Patsy (husband Donald) Shillin.
Visitation will be at St. Mary Catholic Church,4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview on Saturday, January 28 from 9:00AM to 10:45AM with a Celebration of Life Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Kewaunee. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care will be assisting in the services.
