Ivar Johnson

March 29, 1930 — September 1, 2018

We are once again reminded that on this earth, we have no abiding home. It has pleased the Lord in his infinite mercy to call from our midst, Ivar, to his eternal home on September 1st, 2018.
He was born on March 29th, 1930 to the late Frank Ivar Johnson and Esther. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcella Johnson (née Peterson) and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children: Gary Johnson (Michelle), De Pere, WI; Jody Koehn (Mike), Oconomowoc, WI; Cindy Carr (Vince), Broken Arrow, OK; and Wesley Johnson (Kimberly), De Pere, WI. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Ana Johnson, Miranda Koehn, Gunnar Koehn, Isaiah Koehn, Austin Carr, Marcus Carr, Liam Carr, Haley Johnson, Mackenzie Johnson, Faith Johnson and Wesley Johnson. He is further survived by his dear brothers-in-law: Rev. Ron Peterson (Ione) and James Peterson (Donna) and sister-in-law Jean Peterson, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his infant twin sister, his step mother Anna Johnson, his sister, Helen Westborg, and his father, Frank Ivar Johnson.
Ivar was employed as an accountant and later, as a real estate agent, after proudly serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in the Philippines for 3 years. He was raised on a farm and attended a one room school house in Marley, Illinois. Later, he graduated from Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College. He received a degree at Walton School of Commerce and a Bachelor’s Degree from Governor’s State University.
Ivar grew up in Joliet, IL and married Marcella Peterson when he returned from the Philippines. In 1977, they moved to Green Bay, WI with their four children. He was a talented pianist and he was able to play any song by ear. The family home was filled with hymns and praise as he loved to worship the Lord through song. This expression of his faith in Jesus Christ is already dearly missed by his family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 5th from 9:30-11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave, Green Bay, WI 54301. Service will follow at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Joshua Errer. Committal will be at Woodlawn Cemetery (Allouez, WI) immediately after. Ivar’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Tender Hearts Assisted Living Facility and Unity Hospice for the love and care he received. In lieu of flowers, a donation to his beloved Faith Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated.
