Howard Bernard Hockers, 86, Allouez, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born September 2, 1923 in De Pere, son of the late Albert and Minnie (Hoks) Hockers. Howard graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1938, and from East De Pere High School in 1942. He served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. Howard married Bernice VanDenHeuvel on May 3, 1947. Howard worked many years at Wickes Lumber Co. and Builders Plumbing Supply, and following retirement worked part-time at Office Technology. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool with his buddies. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice; five children: Steve Hockers, Gail (Mike) Van Straten, Mary Rentmeester, Ellen LeMay, and Glen (Linda) Hockers; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Lavonne) Hockers, and Don Hockers; sisters-in-law, Elaine Leiberg, Joan (Fran) Froelich, Marilyn (Al) Gokey, Arlene Hockers, and Margie Hockers. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Shirley Hockers; two brothers, Elmer Hockers and Roland Hockers; two sisters, Dorothy Kusch, Sister Alberta (Pearl) Hockers; a sister-in-law, Eleanor (John) O’Hara; two brothers-in-law, Donald VandenBusch and Louis Leiberg. Family and friends may call Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Willebrord’s Catholic Church, 209 S. Adams St., Green Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at church, with Fr. Kenneth DeGroot O.Praem officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum.
