Herman Joe Dykes

July 26, 1949 — December 23, 2018

Herman Joseph “Joe” Dykes, 69, of Allouez, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018. Joe was born July 26, 1949 to Marion Joseph Dykes and Frances Elizabeth (Ingraffia) Dykes in the U.S. territory of Honolulu, Hawaii. As he traveled with his military family, he had the opportunity to attend many grade and high schools in the United States as well as Europe, including Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany. He continued his education at the University of South Carolina, becoming a life-time super fan of the Carolina Gamecocks.
On April 2, 1977, Joe married the love of his life, Kathryn Ann Korzilius, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Whitefish Bay, WI. This union was blessed with three adoring children, Kathryn, Stephanie, and John.

After a childhood spent with frequent relocation between Army bases across the globe, it was no surprise that a full career in transportation management was Joe’s calling. He spent his many working years as a loyal and dedicated employee of Yellow Freight System. During those years, he was also a volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce and Big Brothers Program. Following his heart surgery, he was a volunteer for Concerned Hearts as well.
Joe enjoyed cooking for his family, when he was able. He even spent several months caring for his mother in South Carolina, sharing his gift of cooking, and assisting in her daily care. In addition to cooking, Joe enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers or his beloved South Carolina Gamecocks. He adored the beach, especially the warm sunny shores of Myrtle Beach. He was especially fond of his rescue dog, Gypsy, whom he had hand-selected, (without the express written consent of his better half), and cared for until her passing in 2017. But, of all the things Joe loved in this world, his children were above all else. He was an active participant in their lives. Not only attending all of their sporting events as children, but coaching their soccer team too.

Joe is survived by his wife, Kathryn A. Dykes; children, Kathryn M. Dykes (Steve Fagan) of Atlanta, GA, Stephanie L. Dykes (Billy Hand) of Chicago, IL, and John J. Dykes (Miranda) of Appleton, WI; brothers, John C. Dykes and David G. Dykes (Pam) of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Mark Korzilius of Green Bay, WI; and sister-in-law Mary Ann (Kim) Watt of Cape Coral, FL.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Frances Dykes; sister-in-law, Candy Dykes; father and mother-in-law Frank and Stella Korzilius; grandparents, Joseph and Josephine Ingraffia, and Herman and Ollie Dykes.
Thank you to the caring staff of Prevea West Depere Family Practice, especially Drs. David and Karla Spika, for their kindness and excellent care over the years.
