Hazel C. Dahlke

November 26, 1942 — September 11, 2012

Hazel C. Dahlke, Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence in De Pere after a 20 year battle with cancer. Hazel was born on November 26, 1942, daughter of the late Edgar Dahlke and Vivian Dahlke Hansen. Hazel graduated from Denmark High School in 1960 as salutatorian and attended Bellin Hospital School of Nursing with her twin sister Judith. After taking a diploma in nursing from Bellin, Hazel took a B.S. in Nursing from University of Wisconsin, Madison. Hazel worked at the University Hospital, Madison, and later at the Veteran’s Hospital, Minneapolis. She returned to Bellin in Green Bay, where she taught nursing. After her twin’s, Judith’s death in 1982, also of cancer, Hazel started a new career, earning a Master’s degree in Library Science at the University of Wisconsin Madison Campus. She was employed at the Manitowoc Public Library until her retirement. Hazel loved playing cards, reading, and visiting her family. Hazel’s family was the most important thing in her life. She knew everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. Hazel was a generous person. She also loved to laugh and had a zany sense of humor. She loved animals, especially cats and was always willing to supply a lap. In addition to her parents and sister, Hazel was preceded in death by her aunt, Marian Dahlke, step-father, Harley Hansen and step-brother, Roger Hansen. Survivors include one brother, Ross (Kristin Urban) Dahlke, Maribel, two sisters, Gail (Ken) Wanek, Webster, New York, and Nona (Dan) Huempfner, Green Bay. Hazel is also survived by two uncles and one aunt, Gerhardt Dahlke and Eldon and Nancy Dahlke, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friend, Gloria Burt and her children. Per Hazel’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, Denmark, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
