Harold Ecker, 90, De Pere, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at a local hospital. He was born March 26, 1922 in Brillion, WI, son of the late John and Caroline (Pritzl) Ecker. Harold graduated from Hilbert High School and served his country in the United States Air Force. During his WWII service he was a flight instructor who trained fighter pilots. Harold graduated from St. Norbert College and Kansas State University, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Harold married Suzanne Wheeler, July 28, 1951 at St. Francis Cathedral in Green Bay. He retired from Paper Converting Machine Company. Harold was a talented trumpet player… playing in the Packer Band, Green Bay Symphony, WBAY Band, and more recently the Last of the Big Bands. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Sue; children: Mary Lee Vidrine; Hans (Dana) Ecker, Scott (Gretchen) Ecker, and Lizbeth (Bill) Schneider; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Irene (Bill) Straus. Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Ed, Norbert, and Bernice. Family and friends may call Friday, May 4, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of Memorial Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at church, with Fr. Richard Getchel officiating. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, De Pere, is assisting the family.
