Gregory Meller

September 4, 1952 — March 9, 2024

Greg Meller, loving husband and father, died Saturday March 9 at home. Greg was born on September 4, 1952, to Roman and Sylvia (Kaminski) Meller in Milwaukee WI. He was the youngest of three children and attended schools in Milwaukee, culminating with a college degree from UW-Milwaukee.

It was there that he met his future wife, after spending many lunch hours playing racquetball or having picnics on the campus lawns. Greg married the former Betsy Haen on June 7th, 1975, at St. Francis Church in Hollandtown. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Cecely, in 1985.

After spending the first two years in Milwaukee, Greg and Betsy decided to move “up north” which meant the Fox Valley, nine years in Appleton and the last 38 years in Green Bay/DePere. During this time, Greg worked in the Customer Service field, mainly at paper mills in Menasha and Green Bay.

Greg was a member of Resurrection Parish in Allouez for 38 years, and served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Worship Committee and Family Choir, and his favorite role: St. Nicholas! He went on to finish the Commissioned Ministry Program and was very proud to participate in that capacity.

Greg was a huge Packer fan, and he had the Man Cave to prove it. He also loved the Brewers, Marquette Golden Eagles and Wisconsin Badgers. Other hobbies included traveling, playing games, anything JFK, and history.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betsy Meller; his beloved daughter, Cecely Meller of Minneapolis MN; one brother, Ron (Carol) Meller of Germantown WI; two brothers-in-law, Gary Haen of Apache Junction AZ and Don Haen of Kaukauna WI; two sisters-in-law, Lynn (Bernard) Zey of Green Bay WI and Doris Haen of Little Chute WI. Greg was also fortunate to have amazing nieces and nephews on both his side of the family, and Betsy’s side of the family. In addition, he had very close relationships with cousins on both sides of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Sylvia Meller; his sister, Shirley (Joe) Rinderle; and Betsy’s parents, Gene and Bernice Haen.

The funeral service for Greg will be held on Monday, March 18, at Resurrection Catholic Parish 333 Hilltop Drive in Allouez. Visitation will take place from 9AM – 11:15AM, with the Mass being celebrated at 11:30AM, with Fr. Tom Reynebeau officiating and Fr. Paul Demuth as homilist. Entombment will take place in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to Resurrection Parish.
