Gloria Joyce, 96, passed away on November 29, of natural causes. She was born November 9, 1924 as the youngest of 6 siblings to Peter and Elsie Schoeben (Dockendorf) in Chicago, IL.
Gloria graduated from Waller High School in 1942 in Chicago, IL and married Thomas Joyce on May 5, 1948 at St. Michael’s Church in Chicago. She was a homemaker for 26 years, part of that time spent in Green Bay having moved in 1965 with her husband. Tom worked for the 1st ShopKo Store as personnel director. While in Green Bay, Gloria and Tom became charter members of Resurrection Parish. Gloria became active with the Resurrection Choir and could make your head tingle singing the “Ave Maria.”
She and Tom moved back to Chicago in 1973 when she started her post family employment with Landis & Gyr and retired in 1994. Post retirement, they enjoyed traveling to Elder Hostels. Her German heritage made her a diminutive staunch Chicago Democrat.
Gloria is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Dr. Christopher) Laws; grandson Nathan (Emily) of Mequon; granddaughter Caitlin Laws of Denver, CO; granddaughter Carrie (Chris) Zittlow of Green Bay and great-grandchildren Zane and Zoey Zittlow; and grandson Dr. Tyler (Katie) Laws of Middleton. Also survived by her son James Joyce of Chicago; grandsons Riley and Casey Joyce of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom in 1998, daughter Beth in 2013, Son Kevin in 1995.
The family expressed their appreciation for the care received at Angel’s Touch and AseraCare Hospice in Green Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gloria’s memory can be made to St. John Homeless Shelter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 26, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr, Allouez, with visitation from 10-11am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am with Fr. Tom Reynebeau officiating. Funeral mass will be live-streamed and online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. Due to COVID-19, social distancing will be practiced and face masks are required to be worn.
