Glen L. Larsen

May 3, 1933 — August 1, 2019

Glen L. Larsen, 86, of Denmark, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, August 1, 2019. He was born on May 3, 1933 to the late Russell and Edna (Olsen) Larsen.
Glen graduated from Denmark High School in 1951. He met the love of his life, Shirley M DeWitt, and they were married on August 1, 1953. They celebrated 66 years together on the day he went to Heaven.
In 1954, Glen started his redi-mix concrete career with Schuster’s Construction and then in 1968 he and two partners started Green & Gold Concrete. When his partners retired in 1985, Glen took over the company and brought his “boys” into it, making the business the success it is today. In 2018, the company celebrated 50 years in business.
After years of helping his father, Glen followed in his footsteps of pulling horses in contests throughout the Midwest, with the help of all of his sons at one time or another. He won numerous contests and awards and made many friends throughout the years. In 2004, he was proudly inducted into the WHPA Hall of Fame at the Denmark Lions Horse Pull with his family at his side. In October 2014, Glen yelled his last “here” and retired from the sport turning the reins over to his son, Mike, who continues the family tradition.
In the late 1950s, Glen was instrumental in starting the Little League Baseball program in Denmark, where he continued to coach for 19 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing trips to Canada and many trips to the cabin in Vernon County. He was a lifetime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and served on many committees through the years. He was a member of the Denmark Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Glen loved going to as many of his grandchildren’s activities as he could. He enjoyed watching college basketball, the Packers and the Brewers. He also enjoyed playing cards (Sheepshead), shaking dice and pull tabs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Jim Palmer, Bill McGuire, Raymond DeWitt; sister-in-law, Nancy McGuire, and nephew, Chris Olsen.
Glen is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Paul (Ann), Mark (Julie), Mike (Barb), Todd (Dawn), and Dean (Jennifer); grandchildren, Marissa Larsen (special friend Steve Stefferud), Tanya (Vinnie) Pedretti, Travis, Brooke and Zach Larsen. Ashley (Jared) Post, Derek Larsen, Brynn and McKenna Larsen (special friend Hunter Borchert), Michael Copen, Maddox, Walter and Lexianna Larsen; great-grandchildren, Daisy and Ray Post.
He is further survived by his twin sister, Ellen Palmer; sister, Betty (Jim) Olsen; brother, Peter Larsen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 435 Wisconsin Ave, Denmark on Saturday August 10, 2019 from 9 AM until 12:45 PM. A service will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Andrew D. Zoerb officiating. Cotter Funeral Home of Denmark is assisting the family.
