Gladys Alice (Dolge) Pagel

Gladys A. Pagel, 94, De Pere, passed into eternal life on May 15, 2017. She was born on September 25, 1922 to the late Alfred W. and Edna (Knueppel) Dolge in Milwaukee, WI. Gladys graduated with high honors with a B.S. in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1943. She held honorary affiliations with Sigma Epsilon Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa, and Pi Lambda Theta. Gladys began a teaching career in English at Kewaunee High School in 1943 and remained there through June 1951. On June 28, 1947, she married Grant M. Boettcher at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1968. Grant and Gladys lived in Kewaunee and Manitowoc during their years together. At that time, she began a career in accounting, working for Culligan Water Conditioning, Manitowoc, for 24 years. On Sept.27, 1975, she married William F. Pagel at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Gladys and William moved to the state of Washington in 1975. While living there, she was an accountant with Weinstein Bros and during that time, she earned her CPA in Seattle, WA. The couple moved back to Wisconsin in 2000. William preceded her in death July 25, 2002. Gladys was active with the Business and Professional Women in Manitowoc, Seattle and Vancouver, WA, and was Past President of the BPW of Manitowoc/ Two Rivers. After returning to the Green Bay area, she was active as a volunteer at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, working on a counting committee and the monthly newsletter. Gladys enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and sheepshead. She was known by many for her excellent cooking and baking skills and was an avid collector of Hummels. Gladys was a longtime, proud fan of the WI Badgers and Green Bay Packers, and attended the infamous “Ice Bowl”. Surviving Gladys are her step children; Patricia Robare, Merrill, WI and Mary Marquardt, Schofield, WI, step daughter in law Beverly Pagel, Las Vegas and their families; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are her step son, James Pagel, step son in law, Duane Marquardt, brother in law, Gerald Pagel and sister, Arlene Riedl. Family and friends may visit at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 743 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10:00am until 11:00am, a memorial service will follow at 11:00am with Pastor Paul D. Schleis officiating. Inurnment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Angel’s Touch Assisted Living and also Compassus Hospice Care.
