The daughter of the late Theodore and Josephine (Lamers) VanCuyk was born November 21, 1921. She was united in marriage to Ervin Vande Hey on May 17, 1947 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks, and he preceded her in death in 1982. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, sewing and bowling. Gert lived her life by the mottos “if you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all” and “if you don't like the coat you can at least like the buttons.” The way she lived her life helped her to make many friends through the years. Gert was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, and was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always said her family was her greatest blessing. Survivors include her children: Mary (Jerry) Kussow, Tom (Barb), Bob (Bonnie), Jack (Gail), Sue (Bob) Behnke, Mark (Therese), Jayne (Larry) Damp, Kay (Willie) Kussow, Karen (Dave) VandeVoort; grandchildren: Brad (Dawn) Kussow, Molly (Jamie) Boylan, Jenelle (Tony) Seidl, Christopher (Alisha) Nelson, Erin (Joel) Carlo, Ross Vande Hey, Anna (Kevin) Van Schyndel, Karmin (Jared) Wruck, Louis Vande Hey, Corey (Abbey) Behnke, Brian (Marie) Behnke, Colleen Vande Hey, Melissa (fiance Tyler) Vande Hey, Megan Vande Hey, Emily Kussow, Evan Kussow, Rachel VandeVoort and Tim VandeVoort; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law: Lima Vande Hey, Lois VanCuyk and Dorothy Zelzer.
