Gerald "Jerry" Carter

March 9, 1948 — November 9, 2016

Gerald (Jerry) P. Carter, age 68, De Pere, ended his 10 year journey with cancer peacefully at his home with family by his side on November 9, 2016. Jerry was born March 9, 1948 to the late Oliver “Levi” and Edith (Patton) Carter. Jerry graduated from East De Pere High School in the class of 1966. He married Kathryn Smits on October 17, 1970 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere, and together they raised three sons who they are so very proud of. Jerry was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family, socializing with friends, deer hunting and spending time at the cabin in Dunbar. He looked forward to Thursday night tailgating at the race track and of course watching the races. Jerry is survived by his wife Kathy; children: Daryl Carter, Dan (Trisha) Carter, Brian (Jenny) Carter; grandchildren: Tayler and Kyle; his sister Jane Van Horn; brother-in-law Harvey Brown; Kathy’s family: Jim (Sandi) Smits, Pat (Linda) Smits, Susan (Mark) Rusch, Ellen Enderby, Julie (Steve) Babiash, Terri (Roy) Fruzen, Tom Smits, Mike Smits, Rod (Lori) Smits, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Loretta Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank (Donna Mae) Carter, Ray (Jean) Carter and Thomas Carter; brother-in-law Bruce Van Horn; Kathy’s mother and father Richard and Margaret Smits; brother-in-law Bruce Enderby and an infant sister-in-law Mary Jo Smits. Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Monday, November 14, from 4-8pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, at the church, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial in Mt.
