Gerald G. Van Asten

June 1, 1925 — July 27, 2018

Gerald (Gerry) Van Asten, age 93, of Wrightstown, entered eternal life on Friday, July 27, 2018. The son of the late William and Delia (Maas) Van Asten was born June 1, 1925 at home in Freedom. Gerry served his country in the US Army as an infantry man, and received awards including: The Bronze Star, Purple Heart in Italy, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze service star, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII and the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion in Wrightstown for 50 years. Gerry married Catherine Meulemans on July 4, 1946 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Wrightstown, and she preceded him in death in 2004. He farmed for much of his life, and was a member of many farm organizations. In addition, he was a town supervisor in Kaukauna and Wrightstown, served on the Wrightstown School Board and was a St. Paul Parish Trustee for many years.
Survivors include his children: Gary (Lue) Van Asten of Kaukauna, Ken (Diane) Van Asten of Florence, Nancy (Bob) Lamers of Kaukauna, Linda (Jim) Kortz of Kaukauna, Tom of Wrightstown; daughter-in-law Phyllis Van Asten of Wrightstown; grandchildren: Julie (Adrian III) Slager, Scott (Maki) Van Asten, Mike (Sarah) Kortz, Dan (Jen) Lamers, Sarah (Rob) Teske, Michelle (Skyler) Dukes; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings: Art Van Asten, Germaine Ambrosius, Elaine (Bernie) Miller, Ron (Ann) Van Asten, Mary Ann Neubert, Diane (Leo) Gilsdorf; sister-in-law: Marcy Meulemans; nieces, nephews other family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Catherine and parents he was preceded in death by: son James Van Asten, brothers: Erv (Alice) Van Asten, in-laws: Bonnie Van Asten, David Neubert and Bill Ambrosius; father-in-law and mother-in-law: John and Anna Meulemans; Catherine’s siblings: Art Meulemans, Dorothy (Mark) Buchinger and Lucille Meulemans
Family and friends may visit at St. Clare Parish- St. Paul Site, Wrightstown, on Thursday, August 2, from 3-7pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, at the church, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Brian Wideman officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Wrightstown. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
A memorial fund is being established.
