Gerald B Ploen

Gerald “Jerry” B. Ploen, 85, Allouez, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021.  On December 3, 1935, he was born to the late Bert and Laura (Kipp) Ploen in Marshfield, WI.  Jerry received a Bachelor of Science Degree from UW Stevens Point and then a Master of Science Degree from UW Stout. He served his country in the United States Navy from January 1955 to January 1959. 

On August 25, 1962, he married his sweetheart, Mary Louise Grevatch at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Stevens Point.   He retired after a 37-year career as a teacher at Northeast WI Technical College.  Jerry was a longtime active member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Allouez, where he was an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Favorite pass time activities for Jerry included woodworking, getting together with his group of retired teachers for weekly coffee at Julie’s Café or playing golf, biking, reading and most of all spending time and traveling with his family.

Jerry is survived by children, John & Patti Ploen and their children Hannah (Charles) Strange and Jack; Mary Beth & John Brunner and their children Lauren and Alyssa; and Patrick Ploen; two brothers-in-law, Donald Baierl and Fr. Bill Grevatch; and a dear friend Len Koenig.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Mary; three brothers, Charles, Harold, and Robert; three sisters, Bernice Reidel, Rosemarie Alf and Helen Baierl.

Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Allouez on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 10:00AM until 10:45AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM with Fr. Tom Reynebeau and Fr. Bill Grevatch concelebrating.  Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.  Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
