George C. Swan

July 25, 1916 — January 8, 2013

George Charlton Swan, formerly of De Pere and Allouez, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2013. He was born July 25, 1916 in the Village of Folsem, South Dakota, to the late Raymond and Margaret (Barber) Swan. He attended schools in Rapid City, South Dakota through high school and one year at the South Dakota School of Mines. He worked as a surveyor with the South Dakota State Highway Department until he went into the Army in May, 1942. He received a commission in February of 1943, and served in the Pacific Theatre until December of 1945, including Leyte in the Philippines and Okanawa. He was recalled into the Army and served from 1950 until 1952, during the Korean Situation. He married Mary Ellen Linnane on January 9, 1952, the daughter of Daniel and Molly (Daley) Linnane of De Pere, at the Chapel in Fort Carson, Colorado (she preceded him in death on February 16, 1972). He married Rose Mary Peltier (Blankenheim) on August 2, 1975 at Resurrection Parish in Allouez. He was an engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Highways from March of 1962 until June of 1979, when he retired. George is survived by his wife, Rose, Stephen (Karen) Swan and their 2 daughters, Betsy (Geno) Pichette and their 4 children, Kevin Swan, Daniel (Bridget) Peltier and their 2 children, Jean Peltier and her son, Jill (Tom) Hasseler and their 3 children, Michele Peltier and her 2 sons, Lisa (Ed) Miller and their 3 children, Mary (Tim) Morrison and their 3 children, Amy (Tom) Ihde and their son and many great-grandchildren. George will be joining many of his family members and friends in heaven. Family and friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Parish, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, from 9:30am until the hour of Mass on Saturday, January 12. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, at the church, with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral Home, De Pere, is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Grand Horizons CBRF in Kimberly, as well as Heartland Hospice, for the wonderful care and concern they showed to George and his family.
