Gary R. Nelson, 74, De Pere, passed away on August 31, 2015. He was born on August 2, 1941 to the late Richard (Wanda) Nelson. He married Roma Eneboe on June 30, 1973 in South Dakota. He attended school in Bradley, South Dakota and graduated from South Dakota State University in 1964, with a degree in Dairy Science. After Gary graduated college, he started his career working for Swift Company in the Poultry and Cheese division. In his later years he worked for Asphalt Seal Repair. Gary was also a member of the National Cheese Exchange. Gary loved to fish, and walk his two dogs, Bode and Cooper. Gary was an avid fan of De Pere Redbird sports, and loved watching his granddaughters play. He cherished the time he spent with his youngest granddaughter, Clara, taking her to the park. Most of all, he loved people, especially his family and telling stories. He had a story for everything! Gary will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Roma; as well as his five children: Jackie Moore, Bill (Nicole Adam-Nelson) Nelson, Kim Nelson, Tom Nelson, Matt Nelson; grandchildren: Kristin (Neil) Wells, Jessica Van Deurzen, Alyssa Van Deurzen, Clara Nelson; great-grandchildren: Ryder and Reese Wells; mother-in-law, Ann Foster; in-laws: Gene and Carolyn Helkenn, Virginia and Lee Schmunk, Allen and Brenda Eneboe; aunt, Winnie Ackerman; uncle, Bill Jents, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Harold Eneboe, step-father-in-law, Lloyd Foster, aunts, uncles, best friend, Dennis “Duke” Hotzler. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. The visitation will continue at Cotter Funeral Home, Friday, September 4, 2015 from 10:30am until 11:15am. The funeral service will be held at 11:30am at Cotter Funeral Home, with Rev. Luther Swenson and Rev. Lori Swenson, officiating. Entombment will take place in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.
