Gale L. Basten

April 26, 1934 — May 18, 2018

Gale Basten, age 84, of Green Bay, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018. He was born in New Franken, Wisconsin on April 26, 1934 to the late Carl and Pearl (Greiling) Basten. Gale graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1952 and joined the United States Coast Guard. He proudly served his country from 1953 to 1957, where he was stationed in various ports, including Hawaii. His love of water was evident. He was a lifelong member of the Green Bay Yacht Club and with his wife Carole by his side they completed The Great Loop. He was a truly gifted craftsman and worked for many years as a carpenter. Gale also was a member of the Land O’Lakes VFW, where he proudly provided military honors for veteran’s services.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Carole, children; Mark (Sharon) Basten, Ann (John) Baenen, David (Tina) Basten, Anna Allen and Eve Boyea. Grandchildren; Stephen, Christopher, Becca, Sara (Eric), Melissa, Angela (Nick), Alicia (Jonathon), Matthew (Ariel), Adam, Tabitha, Heather, Jacob, and Talia. Great grandchildren; Aniyah, Olivia, Nick, Samuel, Benjamin, Allison, Landon, Brooklynn, Hunter, Breanna, Vayda, and Ryder. Gale is further survived by his brother and sisters, Harlan (Carol) Basten, Sandy Tursky and June (Roger) Gilsoul, sister in law, Nancy Basten as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, daughter, Susan Notaro, and grandson, Joshua Conarroe. Also, brothers Barry, Ron and infant brother, Gary Basten.

A gathering of family and friends in celebration of Gale’s life will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 1- 4 pm, with military honors beginning at 2pm, at The Green Bay Yacht Club, 100 Bay Beach Rd, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
