Fred Van Wassenhoven

Fred J. Van Wassenhoven, age 85, De Pere, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Bishop’s Court. The son of the late Remi and Virginia (De Beuklaer) Van Wassenhoven was born on August 30, 1929 in De Pere. Fred married Loretta J. Heller at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere on December 2, 1961. He was a very devoted husband and loving father to his four daughters. Fred was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1946 to 1948. He worked for Joe’s Standard in De Pere, Cuene Buick and later Brennan Buick. Fred is survived by his wife, Loretta, four daughters: Judy (Todd) Smith, Terry (Mike) Brozek, Beth (John) DeKeyser, and Chrissy (Doug) Adams; eight grandchildren; Heidi (Josh) Verhagen, Sarah Smith, Brittany Brozek, Caitlin Brozek, Amber DeKeyser, Jacob DeKeyser, April Adams and Kassidy Adams; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Van Wassenhoven, special brother-in-law Kenny (Donna) Heller; special niece: Mary (Jerry) Longlais and her children Adam (Jenny) Longlais and Katie (Jesse) Mrotek; special nephews: Don Van Wassenhoven, and John Van Wassenhoven, as well as other nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Raymond (Tootie), Joseph, Louie and Emil (Rose); two sisters: Rose (Fred) VanVonderen and Mary Margaret (Robert) Karl. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Monday, September 1, from 9:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm, with Pastoral Minister Steve Donovan officiating. Full military honors will follow the service at the funeral home. Interment in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, De Pere. Our family would like to extend special thanks for the wonderful and loving care during his stay at Bishops Court; especially the care given by Amber, Debbie, Tom, Kayla and Lindsay. We would also like to thank Unity Hospice; especially Mariah for her compassion and care given in his final days.
