Francis "Fran" Lasee

Francis “Fran” Lasee, age 100, of De Pere, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 with family at his side. The son of the late John and Louise (Verheyen) Lasee was born December 18, 1920 in the Town of Rockland as one of ten children. He attended St. Norbert High School and from 1942 until 1945, Fran was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army. Fran married Grace Sleger at St. Mary Church in De Pere on December 30, 1941 after meeting her at Bluestone Dance Hall. He worked many years as a guard at the Reformatory in Green Bay. After retiring from the Reformatory, he owned his own stone quarry on Scray’s Hill and worked as a stone cutter, finishing his career at Zoll Stone. Fran was a member of St. Mary Catholic Community in Ledgeview, and he provided the stone for the old St. Mary School. In his spare time, Fran enjoyed fishing, golfing, dancing and spending time with Grace at his cottage on Fawn Lake. A skilled bowler, Fran scored 834 at Willow Lanes on January 20, 2004, and at the age of 90 scored a 300.
He is survived by his children: Jean (Francis “Fluff”) Van Remortel of De Pere and Ron (Mary Lou) Lasee of De Pere; grandchildren: Michele (John) Brock, Cathy (Trip) Jobe, Kurt (Joy) Van Remortel, Steve (Gail) Lasee, Mark (Jodi) Van Remortel, Scott (Lori Leaf) Lasee, Lisa (Steve) Effert and Jon (Jamie) Lasee; 16 great-grandchildren; Grace’s siblings Ruth Schmidt and Bob Sleger; sisters-in-law: Rose Lasee and Eleanor Lasee.
Fran was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; parents; siblings: Vi (Ed), Doris (Jack), Joan (Andy), Rueben (Kay), Raphael (Faye), Urban (Joyce), Eugene (Eleanor) and Vince (Ruth), John “Jobie.”
Family and friends may visit at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, on Saturday, March 6, 2021, from 10:00am until 11:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm (noon) followed by full military honors. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, De Pere. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
