Florence Vandeleest

February 25, 1930 — December 6, 2018

Florence Ann Schumacher VandeLeest, 88, completed a long and beautiful life journey on December 6, 2018 when she was reunited with her parents.
Florence was born the only child of Walter and Agnes Schumacher on February 25 1930.

Upon graduation from Green Bay West High School Florence began her career working for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation in Green Bay.

Through mutual friends Florence was introduced to Warren VandeLeest in November of 1949 on a blind date, thus beginning more than 69 years together.

Florence and Warren formally began their life together on December 6, 1951, exactly 67 years to the date of Florence's passing. The couple was married at Annunciation Catholic Church in Green Bay, while Warren was on leave from the United States Air Force.

Following their marriage Warren and Florence relocated to Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, Illinois. Florence worked as an Administrative Assistant to an Air Force Colonel, while Warren served his country as an Electronics Instructor in the Air Force.

Upon Warren's discharge from the military in 1955 the couple returned to their home in Green Bay to continue raising their family.

Volunteering and giving back to the community was important to Florence throughout her life. She was an active member of the Bellin Hospital Concerned Hearts Club and along with Warren spent many afternoons and Holidays staffing the Critical Care desk at Bellin Hospital.

Florence is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years Warren VandeLeest who also served as her primary caretaker for the past many years. Florence is further survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Mary) VandeLeest, De Pere, and Gregory (Martha) VandeLeest, Kohler, Wisconsin.

Florence is also survived by three grandchildren. Seth (Jessica) VandeLeest, Racine, Wisconsin, Nathaniel VandeLeest, Kohler, Wisconsin and Alyssa (Dr. Michael) Conrardy, Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by two great grandchildren Jacob and Riley VandeLeest. She is further survived by three step-grandchildren, Sean (Maribeth) Franken, Erin (Luke) Kohl and Meghan (Jeremy) Carlson and four step great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters-in-law Joyce Beckman, Virginia VandeLeest and Nancy (Gary) Truttman and one brother-in-law Gerald (Mary) VandeLeest. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Florence will be sadly missed by her family and many friends, and will always be remembered by all for her caring, compassion, strength and playful sense of humor. We will all find peace in the happy memories.

Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Parish Family, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Tuesday, December 11, from 9:00am until 10:45am.
