Florence Reedy

October 22, 1928 — October 20, 2018

Florence Teresa Reedy, longtime Maribel resident, passed away October 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, just in time to celebrate her 90th birthday in heaven. Florence was born October 22nd, 1928 near Rosecrans in the town of Cooperstown., daughter of Frank W. and Mary L. (Cavanaugh) Wanish. She grew up on the family farm and attended Rosecrans Grade School. She graduated from Denmark High School in 1946. She then worked at Mirro Aluminum for several years.

On May 2, 1953, Florence married Thomas W. Reedy at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. They farmed just outside of Maribel for many years. Florence also worked at Hamilton Manufacturing for several years. Her husband preceded her in death on September 5, 1984. Florence continued to operate the farm until 1992. She then worked part-time at Cedar Ridge Restaurant.

Florence enjoyed living in the country her entire life. She often had a large garden in her younger years, once described as the “loveliest garden on Pleasant Road.” Florence had a great appreciation for music that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was a lifetime member of the Denmark VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown. Florence’s generous spirit and happy Irish wit made her a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a heart of gold.

She is survived by her children: Lori (Richard) Schilke, Green Bay; Allen Reedy, Maribel; and Patricia Reedy, Bellevue; her grandchildren: Jason (Melissa) and Kari Reedy, Paul and Erin Schilke, and her great grandchildren: Elaina, Nolan, Coraline, and Lauren Reedy. She is further survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law: Rita Tisler and Veronica (Donald) Rabas, and two brothers and sisters-in-law: George (Marilyn) Wanish and Daniel (Dorothy) Wanish. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Victor Wanish.

Family and friends may gather from 9:00am to 10:45am, on Friday, October 26, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Rd R, Cooperstown. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
