Evelyn R (Ruehrdanz) Castle

Evelyn R. Castle, 94, Gurnee, IL, currently residing in De Pere to be close to her family, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at Angels Touch. Evelyn was born September 9, 1915 in Evanston, IL, daughter to the late Alfred and Avis (Avery) Ruehrdanz. She graduated from Evanston Township High School, and attended Waylister Junior College in Connecticut. Evelyn studied out east to being a proper young lady and upon returning, pursued a secretarial career in downtown Chicago. She married Oliver Castle on July 17, 1938 in Evanston, IL, and he preceded her death on December 13, 1999. Evelyn had many hobbies, but her favorites include: golfing and shopping, especially being a buyer for the Alcove Gift Shop in Highland Park, Illinois, gardening, playing bridge, cooking and entertaining. She was an independent and loving woman who had great sense of humor. Evelyn will be deeply missed by her sons: Jim (Sallie) Castle, Allouez, and Bob (Deborah) Castle, Fairfax, CA; three grandchildren, Susan Castle, Heidi Castle, and Craig Castle; one nephew, Bob (Marge) Ruehrdanz; a niece, Sandy (Harry) Noborikawa; special friends, Bruce Maple and Barry (Carole) Lindsey, who Evelyn considered family; Goddaughter, Erin Lindsey (Jamie) Siminoff and their son, Oliver. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred; and her sister, Corrie. Family and friends may call Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Ted L. Tromble officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
