Sharing the last days of her life with her family, Eugenia Conway (nee Lyon) died at her Allouez home of more than half a century, the home where she and her late husband George had raised their nine children. Told she had but days to live, Gene celebrated her eighty-sixth birthday with her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, embracing her future and final days. She died as she lived, fully engaged in life. Born May 18, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan, a child of the Great Depression and a World War II bride, Gene dedicated her life to be a mother to her own children and to those who needed a mother’s care, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched. With unwavering devotion in her Catholic faith and a deep moral compass, Gene freely expressed her opinions and advocated unhesitatingly for her beliefs, a passion she passed on to her children and grandchildren. For over fifty years, she met monthly with her friends to play bridge and developed a close-knit group of women to celebrate and grieve the events of their lives. She enjoyed sharing in the lives of her children from birth to adulthood, always reminding them of their Irish heritage. Gene, mother and grandmother, will be deeply missed by her family and friends as they wish her peace on her journey ahead. May you always find blue skies above your head, shamrocks beneath your feet, laughter and joy aplenty, kindness from all you meet, good friends and kin to miss you if ever you choose to roam, and a path that’s been cleared by the angels themselves to carry you safely home.
