Eugene O'Leary

Eugene L. O’Leary, 76, of Denmark, Wis., died Aug. 19, 2018 while on vacation in Asheville, N.C.

Born in Green Bay, the son of Leo and Corrine (Rentmeester) O’Leary, Gene attended Denmark School and Premontre High School. He was a proud 1968 graduate of St. Norbert’s College, where he was to be inducted as a Golden Knight in September. He married Marcia Flanagan in 1969. After Marcie’s death, he married Jean (Globensky) McFarlane in 1994.

Gene served in the National Guard, and worked for Brown County Human Services, specializing in juvenile court and family mediation. After retiring in 1999, he pursued many interests including volunteering as an EMT for the Viking Rescue Squad, working at a local winery, serving as a substitute teacher in the Denmark School District, and participating on the advisory board for the Denmark Charter School. He was a member of All Saints Parish.

Gene is survived by his wife, Jean, and four sons, Ryan (Jen) O’Leary of Muskego; Sean (Thea) O’Leary of Ridgecrest, Calif.; Matthew (Veronica) McFarlane of Manitowoc; and Daniel (Maren) McFarlane of Milwaukee; grandchildren Corinne and Logan O’Leary of Muskego; brother Patrick (Marjorie) of Denmark; sisters Eileen (Bill) Peters of Two Rivers, and Margaret (Lloyd) Nemetz, of Two Rivers; sister- and brother-in-law, Randy and Becky Dienger of Chippewa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcy, and son Patrick O’Leary.

Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 with visitation beginning at 12:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm at Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark, 536 Cty Rd R, Denmark.
