Elaine “Nana” Lish Bornstein died on December 1, 2018 in Brillion, WI. She was born April 24, 1930 in Cleveland, OH to Max and Ann Lish. Her husband of 34 years, Jerry (Jerome Bornstein), predeceased Elaine, passing in 1985.
Elaine met Jerry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Cleveland for a number of years before relocating to Toledo in 1961. Elaine received her teaching degree at the University of Toledo where she taught at Grove Patterson Elementary and the Toledo Jewish Academy. Her favorite grades were 4th through 6th. Following Jerry’s passing, Elaine took a position at Temple Shomer Emunim, as the Rabbi’s administrative assistant where she helped the Rabbi acclimate to his new congregation.
Elaine was a voracious reader, played bridge and Mahjong, enjoyed aerobic classes, played golf and tennis, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. While three of her grandchildren resided in Toledo, she also traveled frequently to Wisconsin to visit her other two grandchildren. She also traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with her daughter, Laurel, and close friends. She loved cooking for family and always made sure there was plenty of food for all.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Loschiavo; children Neil Bornstein (Laurie Okun), Howard Bornstein (Judy Russell), and Laurel Lutzka; five grandchildren Randi Born (Jordan), Cameron Russell (fiancé Bereket Abraha), Lindsay Kaplan (Jamie), Jacki Block (Sam), and Nic Bornstein as well as six beautiful great grandchildren, Madeline, Harrison, Eva, Ruby, Max, and Joey.
Elaine’s family would like to express a special thank you to the staff (and especially Clint) at Brillion Westhaven and Unity Hospice for their care of Elaine over the past seven years.
Memorial services will be held in Toledo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, DePere, WI 54115.
