Edward J. Steinberger

August 27, 1939 — February 4, 2021

Edward J. Steinberger, age 81 of Denmark passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1939 to the late Edward and Emily (Valenta) Steinberger in Green Bay. Ed spent most of his life on the family farm, attending a one room schoolhouse until high school. He graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1957. His education didn’t end when he graduated, and was a lifelong learner, jotting notes in a notebook he kept in his pocket. He enjoyed fixing things, if he didn’t know how, he figured it out. He used those skills to build his own house and the farm gave him ample opportunity to further hone his skills. He also worked for Fort Howard for almost 30 years. On October 5, 1963, he married the love of his life, Claire O’Leary at St. Bernard’s Church in Green Bay. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before she passed on July 31, 2020.

He is survived by his four children; Jim (Joy) Steinberger, Denmark; Mike (Becky) Steinberger, Denmark; Kathy (Gary) Garske, Amhurst Junction, WI and Tom (Connie) Steinberger, Burlington, WI, six grandchildren; Courtney (fiancé Jacob Borth) Steinberger; Meghan and Nicole (friend Dylan Bebee) Steinberger; Evan, Steven and David Steinberger. brother, Gerald (Diane) Steinberger. Ed is further survived by his sisters and brothers in law; Mary Ann Devroy, Sylvia (Bob) Pott, Robert (Cathy) O’Leary, Mike (Alice) O’Leary, Tom (Kathy) O’Leary, Dan (Mary Joan) O’Leary, Pat O’Leary and his friend, Mary Edmundson as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Claire, his parents, his mother and father in law, Mabel and Sylvester O’Leary and two nephews; Matt Steinberger and Brian O’Leary.
Family and friends may gather at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Road Green Bay (Bellevue) on Saturday, February 13, 2021 beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am, the Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00am, Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating. Due to the current restrictions regarding Covid-19, wearing masks is requested, please bring a mask to wear. The service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend and can be found at the Prince of Peace Facebook page, POPGB54311. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers for the wonderful care given to Dad; Lexi from Home Instead and the entire staff at Angels Touch, especially Adriana.
